Welcome to La Mano Verde (German translation soon)
La Mano Verde opened November 1st 2008 in Berlin. Our
vision was to create a unique and healthy 100% plant
based cuisine. Over time, the knowledge and experience
we gained working with Vegan and Raw food gave us the
confidence to introduce a more creative direction in the
kitchen, where fresh and natural ingredients,
presentation and finesse take priority.
One of our objectives was to break the ‘alternative’
image of Vegan food; to make it sophisticated and to be
enjoyed by everyone. Some of our very early dishes
included Soya meat due to its strong representation in
the vegan world, but we found that although welcomed by
many, it was not always well received and was used
mostly to replicate traditional meat dishes. This was
not the path we had envisaged for La Mano Verde, where
we wanted fresh and colourful ingredients with creative
flair and artistry on the plate!
The road to success for a restaurateur is both
physically and emotionally demanding, and at times feels
like an extended roller coaster ride! With La Mano Verde
being a unique concept however, our challenge has been
somewhat different. Our decision to cook with only 100%
plant-based ingredients presented a number of barriers;
we found that many people needed to understand why?
before the next obstacle, which can best be described as
a decision to ‘brave’ their first dining experience with
us!
Over time however we have gained great support; we have
proven that nothing needs to be sacrificed to provide a
fine dining standard of cuisine and service in a totally
plant-based restaurant. We are also helped by society’s
ever growing understanding of the benefits of eating
balanced and healthy diets together with the need to
adopt more protection towards our planet.
La Mano Verde is primarily motivated in offering a
professional and exquisite fine dining experience to its
customers, but the positive impact we have on human
health and that of our planet is more than welcomed. La
Mano Verde was not founded purely for ethical reasons,
but primarily based on a love for food and a desire to
create something new and very special in the culinary
world. The inspiration behind La Mano Verde are the
wonders of an all-plant cuisine, served in a comfortable
and sophisticated setting, and our wish to share such
pleasures of dining with everyone.
More than three years since opening, we have gained
great customers and friends. Many travel to Berlin with
the express intention of including our beautiful food as
part of their experience. I remain amazed, but very
proud, at the number of customers taking photos of our
dishes as they are served; We find those pictures on
internet websites all over the world!
